Privacy Policy
Last updated: 4 September 2026
This policy explains what information Tinta collects, how we use it, and the choices you have. Tinta is operated by Tinta Studio, a business registered in Malaysia under registration number 202603049749 (003826875-M).
Information we collect
- Account information — such as your email, username, display name, and any bio or avatar you add.
- Age range — whether you are aged 15–17 or 18 and over, and whether that range was self-declared or provided through Apple's age-range service. Tinta does not ask for or store your full date of birth.
- Content you create — the stories, chapters, comments, ratings, and messages you post, plus drafts, profile text, support requests, reports, and files such as profile pictures and story covers.
- Usage information — such as which chapters you read and your reading progress, bookmarks, library activity, likes, follows, searches, impressions, reading time, and feature interactions. We use this to power features like “continue reading”, recommendations, and aggregate writer statistics.
- Device and technical information — such as push notification tokens, app version, operating system, IP address, user agent, device or installation identifiers, and security fingerprints used to operate the service, prevent abuse, and avoid duplicate counts.
- Diagnostics — crash reports, stack traces, and performance or error information when diagnostics are enabled in the production app.
How we use your information
- to provide and improve the reading and writing experience;
- to show your profile, stories, and activity to other users as intended;
- to keep Tinta safe — including reviewing reports and enforcing our terms;
- to provide an age-appropriate experience and restrict mature content for younger users;
- to send you notifications you’ve asked for.
- to diagnose failures, secure accounts, prevent spam and fraud, and measure service reliability.
How information is shared
We do not sell your personal information. Content you publish is visible to others as part of the platform. Replies, follows, likes, reading activity, private messages, drafts, reports, and account contact details are not public unless a feature clearly says otherwise.
We disclose information to service providers only as needed to operate Tinta. These include cloud hosting, database, file storage and content-delivery providers; Apple and Google sign-in services; email delivery; Firebase Cloud Messaging for push notifications; and Sentry for production error diagnostics when configured. These providers process information under their own terms and our instructions. We may also disclose information when required by law, to protect users or Tinta, or as part of a business transfer with appropriate safeguards.
Your choices and rights
You can edit your profile, remove your own comments, control notifications and who can message you, and block accounts. You may withdraw notification permission in your device settings and disconnect sign-in access through the relevant Apple or Google account settings.
You can delete your account inside Tinta under Settings → Privacy & Account → Delete Account. Tinta offers an account-only option that anonymises retained published contributions, and a “delete everything” option that removes the account and associated stories, chapters, comments, messages, library data, reading history, and other linked data from active systems. You may also contact us to request access, correction, deletion, or help exercising applicable privacy rights.
Data retention
We keep account and service data while your account is active and as needed to provide the features you use. When you delete data or your account, it is removed or anonymised in active systems according to the option you choose. Limited records may be retained where necessary for security, fraud prevention, dispute resolution, legal compliance, and enforcing bans. Residual copies may remain temporarily in protected backups until those backups are replaced under our normal backup cycle.
Security
We take reasonable measures to protect your information. No online service can be completely secure, so we encourage you to use a strong, unique password.
International processing
Tinta and its service providers may process information in countries other than the one where you live. Where required, we use contractual or other recognised safeguards for these transfers.
Children
Tinta is intended for people aged 15 and over and is not directed to children under that age. Users aged 15–17 may use Tinta, but content marked Mature is hidden and access to it is blocked. We request only an age range, not a full date of birth. On supported Apple devices, the range may be declared by the user or shared through Apple, including by a parent or guardian where Apple's family controls apply. If an age range is not available, Tinta applies the safer under-18 experience by default.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the date above and, where appropriate, let you know in the app.
